ATTENTION : The Kingdom Reborn client is no longer used on the official servers of Ultima Online.
The new Stygian Abyss client (SA) is replacing it.
Upon entering the world of Ultima Online you were greeted by Gwen, who did teach you about many basic actions. Now we will look a little further to make you feel more comfortable with the interface. We will first go through every things you see.
So, you are now in the middle of New Haven, freshly arrived. What are all those things and menus?

The interface is divided in a few zones, which are :
-
The status bar : displaying health, mana, stamina.
-
The bank : this is where you store your prized possessions (see Gameplay section)
-
Sir Helper : he will direct your in Haven.
-
The map : it doesn't appear by default, though you've opened it in your tutorial.
-
The chat window : it is transparent by default until you hover it or talk.
-
The flexible desktop : you will need to toggle it in the options.
-
The war button : it shows/toggles your war mode.
-
The hotbars : this is where all your shortcuts go.
-
The menubar : access options and menu from here.
-
The backpack : this is where you carry your belongings.
Now we will study each of these in a bit more details.
The status bar
It indicates your current health, mana (used for spells) and stamina (hit speed). You can have numerical values by hovering the bar with your cursor or you can toggle the numerical values in the User Settings (see Main menu in the KR user interface section).
The status bar also serves as a (de)buff bar for actions/spells with lasting effects (see the corresponding article in the gameplay section).
Status bar with numbers
Finally, you can right-click your status bar to open the Context menu of your character.

The bank
This is where you'll store your most prized possession to avoid losing them. Simply approach it and say "bank". Read the dedicated article in the Gameplay section for more.
Sir Helper
He will greet you when you arrive in New Haven, his duty is to guide you to the instructors corresponding to your skills (more on instructors in the Haven Quests article in Gameplay section).
The map
The mini map
It isn't open by default, but if you followed the starting quest with Gwen, you should have opened it. In case, press the button with a N in the menu bar to open it. There are a lot of options for the map, so I won't go into more details here. Though, it is a very useful feature of the Kingdom Reborn client. Refer to the map article in the KR user interface section.
The chat window
It is transparent by default when inactive, hover it or talk and it will activate itself. There is a separate article to describe the chat window and it's functionnalities, refer to the KR user interface section.
The chat window
The flexible desktop
This is an option you can activate through the preference menu, more on that in the Main Menu article.
The war button
This is used both as a button to toggle the war mode and an indicator of your current status. It has two states indicating either war or peace mode. You need to be in war mode to attack an enemy, but your character will auto-defend even if in peace mode.
Also note that when you go to war mode, your cursor will turn red!
War mode On
War mode Off

The hotbars
Those allow you to create shortcuts for many actions and make them directly accessible. There are little arrows on the right of the hotbar which allow you to browse through the 9 preset hotbars. You can create more though. More on that subject in the dedicated article.
The hotbars
The menubar
It allows you to access many useful features of the client. From left to right you can find :
-
The character sheet : allows you to equip armor and clothings and to access the character stats.
-
The quest log : where all currently active quests can be found.
-
The skill list : display all the skills available and your current knowledge of them.
-
The virtue gump : give access to all eight virtues (read more about it on stratics, see Links section).
-
The friend list : allows you to keep contact with your friends! (note it doesn't work with 2D!)
-
The guild gump : allows you to create, manage or view your guild informations.
-
The map button : opens the map (pressing multiple times switch between mini and maxi).
-
The main menu : allows you to access the options (see dedicated article).
-
The backpack : see more below.

The backpack
This is where all your items go. There is a new functionnality in the KR client, you can now select among 3 views, simply click the little "toggling" button next to the icon to switch between all 3 views.
